Fortnum & Mason is an institution when it comes to afternoon tea. The store is one of my favourite places to visit during Christmas; and thus the Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon was the natural choice for a siblings Christmas afternoon tea. The tea salon is fresh and elegant, decorated in calming pastel hues, making it a refined tearoom, appropriate for any occasion.
We went for the full Fortnum’s Afternoon Tea: traditional and simple. In hindsight I would give the finger sandwiches a miss, as it is easy to fill yourself up on the rather average sandwiches leaving little room for the mouth watering scones and tea cakes. The scones are perfectly warm and moist. Though simplistic in appearance and presentation – I was pleasantly surprised by the wonderful flavours and textures, skilfully paired in the different patisseries.
If you enjoy your tea with your scones and cake, make sure you do the tea tasting early on, else your tea won’t arrive until quite late into the afternoon tea; which is not too much of an issue given the food is unlimited.
